Liquid reality

Liquid reality

A Poem by Joseph Cooper
"

One may wish to never wake from a dream, to find out the world is not what it seems, instead of beautiful and deep, filled with just plots and schemes.

"

I walk into this dingy bar

Weary from the road

which stretches for eternity

The next destination always too far

The smell is vile thick with smoke

In the corner sits a painted thug

Next to a red light woman

Sipping on their rum and cokes

I sit down on a barely padded stool

My mind tired and weak

Amber liquid swirls in my glass

Berated by the sounds of pool

As the liquid touches my lips

My mind feels refreshed

No longer weary

With each and every sip

Now the smell is sweet

The thug my friend

His woman so beautiful

And the road barely a street

Singing a melancholy tune

Of where I have been

A chorus of those around me

All worshippers of the moon

The leaves may die

And time may fade

The fires of love dwindle

The only response a sigh

But as long as the amber sips

Touch my tongue

and I never realize it is an illusion

no word of anger will leave my lips

Pints, quarts, gallons they be

Painters of a false reality

One may hope he never wakes

From the hope they make
