Suffocation

Suffocation

A Poem by Sierra Nasir
"

I need your support not your opinions.

"
I don’t owe you anything, not a damn thing
The only thing I owe you is a beating for clipping my wings
I thought that by listening to you, my sorrows would go away
But the only thing I truly forgot was how to fly away
Your love is suffocating, like being in a plastic bag
No matter what I ever do, you always seem to nag
You tell me you know what it best for me, since I am your very creation
But you see mom and dad; you are the very definition of deprivation
God made Adam and Eve, two souls alike
He told them what not to do, thinking he could solve their plight
But destiny definitely does put up a fight
That’s the very reason they were cast off into the night
I am my own person; I need to do what I want
I am the one making the mistakes; I am the one getting the scars.
So think twice before you take my happiness away
Because sooner or later I won’t even want to hear your names
