You

You

A Poem by Jemima Laing

You make me laugh on sight

Smiles spread across my face

On wings of joy and happiness

My heart begins to flutter apace

You make my day complete

When I see your face

You make me cry in frustration

I scream and rage in vain

Against my forced confrontation

With my faults and secret pain

Hidden in the crevices of my soul

Are laid bare and plain

You make me stumble my way

Through the whirling vortex

Of uncovered emotions

Old rules serve only to perplex

As the reality I knew melts away

Into something far more complex

You make me sing, you make me seethe

Your words can soothe or sting

I can not decide whether to love or scorn

What we may come to mourn
