Cycles

still trying to get back in the writing processes that I've denied for years

Life comes at you in cycles,

as consistent as seasons.

Each has their highs,

and their own woes.

 

It's during these courses

that we continuously falter

by trying to cope,

instead of mature.

 

We live by what we've learned,

because the risks of

what we yet to understand

seem altogether austere.

 

On a path from

ignorance to competence,

comfort can be our gravest enemy.

do you know how after the furnace has sat un-unsed all summer on that first really cold day we have to wait and let all the dust and crud get worked out of the system? poets are like that, too, I'm not saying that there's no value to what you've written here, I'm just saying it probably isn't your best work, but still necesary to the process

I like that last line, I fight against getting too comfortable in this role as poet. I think we all should.
