Devil

Devil

A Poem by Brandon S. Whitten
"

Waya encounters a horned beast.

"
I felt a wicked vibe when the machine came to a screeching halt
The engine idled as I tried to see through the tinted windows
Then the door opened and smoked wafted out, reeking of death
I didn't move when I saw a hoof touch the dark terrain

Rising out of the metal monster was a horned man with a pale hue
He had long black hair pulled back in a ponytail
His eyes were piercing, black pools with flecks of red
I looked up, unafraid, and asked, Do you know where I am?

With a robust laugh he replies, Yes, you're in my world
As far as the eye can see, this is my kingdom
Keeping eye contact I said, I just want to find my way home
But I don't know how I got here and, he interrupts

Get in the car and I'll take you wherever you want to go
No thanks, I said, I'll keep walking, besides I'm going this way
Pointing in the opposite direction he was going
I remembered what Jesus said whenever I sensed danger
