i want to be her

i want to be her

A Poem by The Whisperer
"

'i want to be her' is a short poem about always feeling like a second option in superficial relationships

"
why is it that i'm always the side girl?
always the one he's texting till she calls
the one that fulfils his needs but is never what he wants
the one he's snapping when he falls asleep,
but never the one that he texts 'good morning'
why do i always have to be the fall girl?
for once, i want to be the one he stops to admire while kissing
and not just another body he's touching, imagining it to be hers
i want to be her.

i want to be her reads, as most work on the topic of being someone's "second option" as truly heartbreaking, and very real. It's a shot to the heart when you realize that the guy you like is just waiting out his time away from another girl. Especially when we, at first, think that we're the only one. Situations like this definitely conjure up these tug-of-war emotions over what we want to do, what we should do, and how we should go about doing these things in such a way that respects everyone - especially ourselves. Being the other woman is hard, being the side piece is hard, and even being the woman he wants is hard because he's in this situationship that allows himself to have his cake and eat it too. So rude. Have you heard the song Girl Crush by Little Big Town? That's very much in a similar emotion. Your words might be simple, but your meaning is so, so universal. I feel as though it could be expanded upon, perhaps adding in a few stanzas to add length and depth to the piece - but if you're happy with i want to be her, I wouldn't change a thing about it.
