My Island

My Island

A Poem by whiteNight
"

Ah, my island. Terceira, Azores. Oh how I miss it.

"
There is an island
Hardly anyone does know
No one has ever heard of
Where no one does go.

But I came to the island
When I was a small girl
I sorely missed home
My head was in a whirl.

I stood on the beach
And looked out to sea
As I did, I saw you
And you saw me.

A girl my age
About seven or so
With wavy blonde hair
Skin like snow.

I was shy, outspoken
You flashed a smile
Held out a shell in your hand
Said, "Lets play for a while".

I returned the smile,
And away you ran
And we laughed all day
As played in the sand.

As the golden sun set
We laid on the shore
"Lets always be friends," you said
I smiled to the core.

That day I found
A friend like no other
We spent days upon days
Laughing with one another.

Though we're older
And we're miles away
I would give anything to go back
To relive that first day.

To tell you we'll be friends
And I'll always be here
As long as I got you
There's nothing I'll fear.

Beautiful poem!! Love the beats and rhythms. Almost all of my poems are kinda strict to it... past the first 25 or so on my list. Your poem reminds me of a movie called "Return to the Blue Lagoon" where it takes place on a beautiful island that you have also painted for ME to witness here. : ) Wonderful poem and story, start to finish!! One thing threw me off and it's just the "tense" of the word. In the third stanza you say that you "stood" on a beach, but that you "look" out to sea. One is in the present and the other is in the past.. "stood". Beautiful, whitenight..... xxoox -Mark

Fabulous write.
You may love to omit this line from the last line.
I can't see any reason for keeping it there.
