Hearts Choice

Hearts Choice

A Poem by robert hesson

Like most men there was a time

I recklessly believed

This heart that beats inside my chest

Only belonged to me

But it broke my ribs then tore my flesh

It pushed aside my lungs

Once I knew you it made this room

To place your heart among

But you barred my love and walked away

You left this void to fill

My heart stood by guarding your spot

Fighting for you still

So I wait alone in my cage of bone

This place that's meant for two

What once was home and all my own

Means nothing without you
