Rainbow Sky

A prize to Lina Grey for winning a Rainbow of Poetry contest [3rd place].

The rainbow sky

with shades so vivid,

so bright.

There was a bright red

like a fiery fire,

so light.

There was a daring orange

like a candle's glow

in the night.

There was a golden yellow

like the sun's shine,

quite right.

There was a leafy green

like the leaves in the trees

like jealousy.

There was a breezy blue

like the splashing waves in the sea

like the falling rain.

There was the bright purple

like a flower's petals

like a thundercloud.

Together,

I have a rainbow,

a rainbow sky.

I can mix the colors

to create new ones,

too.

Red and blue

make a beautiful violet

Red and yellow

make a glowing orange

Yellow and blue

make a wispy green

And we make

the rainbow sky

all over again.
