   Words Move Through Words (1989)

A girl was taken across the lake
It was the first time
This was before she had begun to dream
How still the surface of the lake

It was the first time
The lake entered her mind
How still the surface of the lake
Words move through words

The lake entered her mind
As fish move through water as
Words move through words
And she did not want to leave

As fish move through water as
The lake blackly nibbled at the shore
And she did not want to leave
The boat, and she wept bitterly

The lake blackly nibbled at the shore
This was in her dream
The boat, and she wept bitterly
Because she did not want it all to end

This was in her dream
She made the ride go on and on
Because she did not want it all to end
Rowing over black waters

How still the surface of the lake
How like the waters of the mind
It was the first time
She remembered moving through still waters
