The Broken Battle

The Broken Battle

A Poem by Midnight Wolf

The battle has been fought and won
A victory forever sought
This lasting war is over and done
And failure have we caught

Over the horizon, a promise loomed
Promise of a better day
And with the pain that evil groomed
It is here on dirt we lay

All is lost, no will is there
No promise of a better sight
Though the tunnel of darkness used to bear
A greatly luminous light

The broken battle is fought and done
There's nothing left to spare
For those are they that truly won
Who leave us in despair

So what's the use, what's the plan?
We've truly fought and lost
Do we really think we can fight again
With all the pain it cost?

I ask you now this simple thing
What have we left to choose?
Why get up and fight again
When all we've done is lose?

These questions answered simply now
We've got nothing here
With this battle fought, we indeed have lost
All that we hold dear

I'm fighting the battle of pain and strife
In hope of breaking through
But with it comes the loss of life
To one day start anew
