Toward Infinity

Toward Infinity

A Poem by Joel M Frye

This world, unsettled, restless, suits my mood
Of vague dissatisfaction. Edgy time
Will whittle shards of life away like wood
And leave a staff on which I can't rely.
Recoiling from what comforts and provides
Distraction from my weary pilgrimage,
I once again will turn my search inside,
Not certain what my vision may assuage.
For this wayfarer set out lifetimes hence
In mad pursuit of immortality,
Not seeking or expecting second chance,
Instead, a quest to live forever free;
To live content wherever I may be
Yet set my sails toward infinity.

Like Richard, the acrostic is subtle but in plain view and double kudos to you for weaving a tale that takes the eye way from the Acrostic but brings it back into view :-)

But the lines that spoke to me especially are

'Will whittle shards of life away like wood
And leave a staff upon I can't rely.'

Brilliant... awesome... humbling... so true :-)

Joel... your writings lately take a journey that I'm sure your astounded by, just like your readers.
I love this!

. wow ... your definition of spirituality astounds me, monsieur joel ... (your vocabulary and poetry does too) ... each line is a milestone ... i think i am fortunate that i have experienced this journey ... and ... even more fortunate that you articulated it because i couldn't in a million light years ... this is a masterpiece ... an infinitely precious prayer that i'd never forget ... thank you for this gift ...

In the foolishness of my youth, I once submitted what I thought was a great little poem to a popular magazine; it featured the acrostic, "Buy This."
Eventually received this note from one of the magazine's wily old editors:
"Not, at present,
Open to subliminal seduction!"
This is a wonderful work, Joel, profoundly perceptive and just plain right--a sparkler!
Sometimes, though, I really wish I had some sails to set; seems like I've been swimming this entire lifetime.
