heart of steel

a poem about heart break

hate is a poison of a broken heart,

love is a poison that will tear you apart.

regret is a thing formed by sin,

pain is a thing deep within.

power is a thirst held inside,

loathing is a power that you hide.

envy is a sin that you feel,

now your heart is encased in steel.

Your first two lines are painfully beautiful. That broken hearts cause us to hate; bring us pain and regret; and cause us to turn what's left to steel. Such succinct and well-written lines.
