The Rose is Red

The Rose is Red

A Poem by Myrna Holguin
"

There is only one you.

"

The Rose is Red

The Rose is red in the sunlight

The Rose is gray by twilight

The Rose is watered and tended to like a gem.

The Rose is cut from its stem

The Rose is nurtured by the gardener’s hand

The Rose is yanked away from the land

The Rose is sweetly scented and brought home to dwell

The Rose is sought by the florist to sell

The Rose is cared for and love in the garden

The Rose is scorned by hearts a hardened

The Rose is kissed by a lover’s lips and adored

The Rose is given a price at the store

The Rose is beautiful with other flowers

The Rose is set aside for power

The Rose lies upon the grave site of your mother

The Rose goes from one hand to another

The Rose is red in the sunlight

The Rose is gray by twilight

The Rose journeys on many different paths in life

Its roots remain the same.
