I Loved You Once

a fist love that grew unacknowledged

 

Why don’t you look   

When I call your name

You turn your head

And set my heart aflame 

 

A gasp escapes

My heart sinks down

Heavier then a stone

To the bottomless ground

 

You see me

And when others are near

You’re cold, condescending

Fit with a sneer from ear to ear

 

And then we’re alone

You see my tears

As they flood over me 

And affirm my fears

 

I see you run

And catch me in your arms

Dangling over the edge

Promising to do no harm

 

This was a mistake

Why did I trust you?

Fell for your spell

Into your catch 22

 

Now you have me

There’s no escape

You’ve ignored my pleas      

Allowed me no peace

 

Are you ashamed to love me?

Just want me in your bed

Tied down beneath you

Until your standards get met

 

I wonder….

 

Should you hesitate

Unsure

If I left you a clean slate

 

And disappear from your life

For good?

 

You need me

But I don’t need you

I hate double standards

 

Now I hate

You
