Nowhere to Go

Nowhere to Go

A Poem by Sarah Buchanan

Nowhere to go,

Left in my car,

The only place to sleep,

My only sanctuary,

Left and abandoned,

Feeling the pain,

Feeling the loneliness,

Stuck in a city

That doesn’t care

A city full of homeless

Thrown on the streets,

Left in hospital gowns,

Left wondering

“How did I get here”

Pondering the loss,

People drive by,

Saying nothing,

Doing nothing,

Seeing those

Who were tossed aside

Watching and doing nothing

I had a job,

I had a car,

I had food,

But nowhere to sleep,

In a city with friends

Cause no one

Could hold out a hand

To help a friend

Who had fallen

So far away from home

Those in the street

Might have fallen

The same as me

With no hope

And no help

With nowhere to go.

I can relate so much to this. You have everything you need and it would seem that you would have a warm home to go to, yet you're left alone, sitting in your car, wondering why you're so alone.

I liked the imagery of the people in hospital gowns, with nowhere to go. Very powerful. It reminds of sick people, or people who have been hurt, yet here there are with no home, and nowhere to go.

I liked it.

I can relate (as you well know)...This is an outstanding piece on the subject and I'm sorry you had to go through that pain. Chances are you wouldn't be the same person now if you hadn't though. So very real and visceral, this work speaks volumes. Excellent work,a must-read for everyone.

Sadly this is the natural state of things in these perilous times. The economic downturn has hit the middle class with a vengeance- This piece conveys that bleak hopelessness that many are feeling today-

How did this come about- by being asleep at the wheel- we let our consumerism dictate our needs rather then common sense-

good piece...
