The little Things

The little Things

A Poem by Kayleigh

Once people fall in love,
they tend to fall in to a routine
You have to appreciate little things
and how much these gestures mean

Days turn in to weeks,
then weeks to months

Suddenly we've been together three years and
I have to think a little to remember

Remember the first time we talked?
I kept singing that song
You know the one!
I could never remember the end
Finally you turned
You said ,"It goes like this,"

Remember the first time you kissed me?
My hair got in the way
And I said
Lets try that again
The sparkle in your eyes
Said you were fine with that

Remember the first time I missed you?
Apart for one whole day
It seemed like an eternity
Before you could stay
And then forever
before I didn't have to leave

Remember the first time we touched?
Hands shaking, eyes wide
Quick breaths, holding tight
You were ready
and so was I

Remember the first time you held me when I cried?
Curled on your lap in the front seat
Your hands wrapped around mine
Sobs racking my body
At first I was embarrased
But the look in your eyes
Reassured me

Remember the first doctor's appointment?
Remember the sweet little baby on the screen?
He looked like a peanut, or a gummy bear
He looked perfect to you and me.

Remember when you proposed to me?
I was asleep
You gently roused me
Whispered four sweet words
I said yes and fell back asleep
The next morning I remembered

Remember our wedding day?
You did your eye trick when I said my vows
I tried my hardest not to laugh
You could see,  and you smiled
Remember how we didn't get any food?
We went to Pal's right afterwards
After all, you cannot keep a pregnant woman hungry

Remember all the uncomfortable nights?
Me stealing your pillows
Taco bell at 1 a.m
Eating french toast at 4.

Remember how scared I was
On the way to the hospitial
Remember how you held my hand
and said you'd never ever let go.

Remember how you snuck me food
Remember when everyone left the room
You rubbed my back and petted my head
I wanted you to climb in the bed
and hold me
You were afraid you'd hurt me

Remember at 11:45
You looked up and your eyes met mine
This overwhelming emotion claiming us both
The best part, we were not alone

Now he's almost two, and sometimes we forget
to focus on the little things
But tonight I'm watching you
do your routine
and I can't help but smile a little
I'm falling in love again.
