Dead Asleep

Dead Asleep

A Poem by Aries
"

I dream of this every night

"

If it's alright
I'm gonna dream of you tonight
again putting to shadows the aftermath
of the hellscape of this life
your voice razes a path
through dead sleep
a tale of husband and wife

against all odds who fight the hordes
survive the bloodshed and destructive storms
escaping peril with childish laughter
in the bright starlight of the dream's simplicity
we revel in that dying world
immolated in the fantasy of permanency
and certain as gravity, we're bound by our word
Inseparable, unstoppable and complete
until that final sunrise
where we smile at the mushroom clouds
and the illusion I made of you dies
smashed with daybreak so loud
that the suspension of disbelief
combusts from grief's billows
and this mourning
my pyre pillows
