Friends

A Poem by Mel
"

I've lost many best friends over the years. I'm never able to keep them. Anyways, this is a poem about one of those lost friendships.

"

He’s been breaking hearts his whole life

I wonder if he cares

He admires my integrity

As much as I admire his hair

How much longer until we’re strangers?

We both knew it was coming

Though he never showed it

The friendship that we shared

Will only stay in my mind

And the lyrics you wrote,

The ones I used to understand

So innocent

Confiding to you

I kept trying but

He never tried to cleanse

So I turn away,

Only to try again the next day

And he turned away,

But he never looked back

 Is he who I need?

Am I who he needs?

He reached success and left my aching arms

Tired of hoisting him up

I’ll take you in any day

Forgive you in every way

But you’ve got to come back to me

If you still want to be

Friends

This is so true. like the heart and emotion that the emotion radiates.

This is really tender and heart-felt, Mel. You write with great emotion and I like this very much. The only suggestion I might make is regarding your pronoun choices. Perhaps you did it intentionally to achieve a specific effect, but the moving back and forth between "him" and "you" distracted me from the beauty of your poem. Consistency would have made it even better for me.
