I wait for a friend

I have found

In the dark alleys

An accomplice in a beastly shadow

This beastly shadow has a flowering heart

It protects me at night

Come dawn he gives me my flight

I come back again for the night

In his tender embrace

And come dreamy nights

In his loving sight

He curls me into a ball

And heats me with his love

He gives me a human feeling

As if I belong

Crimson moons

Golden skies

Black clouds

And darkened nights

He blesses me and

Like a star at sea

Guides me till dawn

But his hand in mine remains as long

As the night goes by

For like ruthless warriors

I go to battle come dawn

So I cherish the night

In his loving sight

Within his firm blessings

And within his dark shadow

I love him like a girl loves a flower

Like a horse loves a meadow

And like a song loves a melody

And with time

As I grow older

The war grows wilder

But every night

I find him in the alleys of my mind

He is not real

But is close by

He is the friend I wait for

Because of this I go to fight

I know some eve I’ll find a friend

Amidst the wartimes

And I’ll love him like he’ll love me

And all will be alright

With the thought that I might find a friend

I survive another night

But if he doesn’t come within a few fortnights

I won’t care to survive!

Try adding breaks in the poem. If not breaks then use varying sentence lengths strategically to vary the rhythm and pace. Otherwise, as a reader I dont know where to pause, break, and let the words sink in.
