Again, a 100-word microfiction..

Leaves of the Summer

Yellow leaves mottled with red fluttered down and landed on their siblings. The playful breeze toyed with her ponytail as she pushed her fingers deeper into her coat for. Heat radiated from the heat pack pasted on her shirt.

Turning into an alley, she yelled greetings to her old friends who resided there. They waved back and grinned.

A shadow flashed, vanished, flashed, vanished.

 She turned and saw the empty pavement. 

Imagination, she concluded.

She felt the unmistakable smirk of a cold metal blade slice across her jugular in one fluid motion.

Somewhere in the distance, a yellow leaf fell.
