An ekphrastic poem

The world of the married...

 

It is a world filled with love, 

passion and happiness,

songs of affection 

and unending promises

But isn't it the most vulnerable

to the inevitable pain, 

suffering, conflicts,

temptation ...

and broken promises?

 

 

The world of the married 

is a world you enter into

not only because you love someone, 

otherwise it can be a world 

that you cannot wait to escape from

 

 

The world of the married

is not for the couple alone

they share it with people around them

most especially their children

 

 

Be wary,

for it can be penetrated,

invaded,

wrecked

by the unwelcomed

 

 

It needs to be protected

but to what extent? 

 

 

For how long should one stay?

For how long should one hold on?

For how long would one realize what it's worth?

 

 

The world of the married

A beautiful world indeed 

but beauty comes with complexity

and a mad reality

 

 

Is it a world

for you and me?
