![]() The MoonA Story by Utkarsh YeolekarThe moon “what would you rather be, Sun or the moon?” he asked cuddling his 7year old daughter. It was well spent day down by river side, camping with the family and creating blissful memories. One would do anything to be with their family, especially when the father servers the nation in armed forces. there was nothing more peaceful than watching his beautiful wife and equally gorgeous daughter sleep beside him, he knew the life which he chose was obsolete, and cherishing these moments was priceless as you never know when you’ll be able to do that again. Looking up in the sky, she smiled and uttered “I wanna be the moon, daddy.” “oh! Really but I like the sun, it’s so bright and warm.. and all the flowers bloom in the sunlight”- she said, and gave her daughter a good night kiss. “lily, do you wanna shine bright like the moon? ” “no, the moon has soo many stary friends to play with, it’s never alone..i want to be a moon.” Realizing what his absence is causing her and her childhood, got to his head and he held her more tightly, kissed her head, and sadly frowned at his wife. Two days later, there was a little haste in the house, as lily was on a tantrum, and did not wan’t her daddy to leave, because everytime he left he’d never tell her when he’ll be back. It’s hard thing to imagine what uncertainty does to a fragile mind, about something so close to her heart. He caught her, picked her up, looked deep into her eyes “daddy will be back soon enough, promise” he handed her a photo of them making smores by campfire, She got a little hope, a little certainty in her faith, she hugged him tightly, as he pulled his wife closer. The car rolled away, as both the girls waived in woe, defining the pain in window pane. 4 months later, as fate has planned the fathers destiny, and the pain which caused both of the girls was heart breaking. As if all their nightmares have turned into reality and the darkness has descended upon them. The father did keep his promise, he did come back, unfortunately this time he was wrapped around a coffin. At the funeral, everyone was being supportive as they should be, and were very affectionate towards lily, as if she was a wounded puppy. Lily did not ask for this, one hug from her daddy was enough to make her complete. She ran into her room, pulled out the camping photo and started talking to it-“daddy, please come back, I’ll be a good girl, I’ll do my homework on time, and I’ll never let you go again”, she cried her eyes out. The photo slipped from her hand, and as she went to pick it up, she noticed something written on the back side. The message read- “ look up in the sky lily, I became friends with the moon.”
