We Narcissistic Youth

We slouch in our chairs with bored expressions on our face.

We tap our feet and look at our phones to speed up the pace.

Life is so boring. We just want to be somewhere else.

The life of a teenager often feels like an enclosed space.

 

We have big dreams and are told we can do anything.

but no one really warned us how reality can sting.

We're just confused. We don't know what the hell we want.

We're so lost, we can't tell you what the future will bring.

 

Our hearts break so easy and our emotions so strong.

There's so much work to do but our attention doesn't last long.

We just want to sing to the radio and forget real life for a second.

We live life in the moment and forget what could go wrong.

 

The truth is we narcissistic youth so often don't care.

We want everything right now and dress weird and always swear.

We stay up all night and drink and smoke cause it's fun.

We just want to go out with friends and laugh till there's no air.

 

Though you think we don't get it, we know it won't last forever,

but when you're young and beautiful,  you just feel so clever.

So while I can, I plan on doing, seeing, tasting, experiencing  everything through the eyes of my youth.

Because life will never be the same again, not ever.

As a 19 year old, this is my take on teens today, with some inspiration from Lorde.
