Don't Stress it, Le Chatelier!

A poem to a beginning AP Chemistry Student, done for extra credit in my class.

If you are starting chemistry,

Don’t worry or be stressed.

I promise it’s easy as ABC,

If you only try your best.

 

Don’t let chem intimidate you,

With words that you haven’t seen.

Redox, osmosis, and exothermic are

Easy once you learn what they mean.

 

You’re not the first to be confused,

So there are a lot of men to help you.

Boyle, Charles, Dalton,

Lowry, Lewis, and Avogadro too.

 

If that doesn’t appease you,

I will try yet once again.

Let me go through what you’ll learn,

And you’ll surely feel fine then.

 

You’ll start with little molecules,

That shouldn’t stretch you too far.

Just learn how an atom works,

And keep your VSEPR!

 

Next is solids, liquids, gases,

And how each one changes with heat.

A concept and a few equations,

Then you’ve got phase change beat.

 

There are a lot of gas equations,

But don’t let them confuse you.

Instead multiply proportions,

The concepts will allow you to.

 

Don’t let concentration fool ya,

Solutions can be a breeze.

Plus when you are finished,

You can make ice cream freeze!

 

Pay attention to thermodynamics,

If you want to live forever.

You’ll have to try cryogenics,

But only if you’re very clever.

 

Kinetics will be your chapter,

If you like to go very fast.

But remember to learn the orders,

Or you will surely be passed.

 

By March you’ll find a balance,

When you study equilibrium.

Just watch out for senioritis,

You’ll fail if you succumb.

 

So don’t stress it like Le Chatelier,

You’re going to be fine.

Try your best and work real hard,

And your time will be as good as mine!
