water and ash

water and ash

A Poem by Dominic

We poets
writing our way to our essence
hoping secretly to find the crystal
clear, sharp edged and
symmetrical solid
but what if our essence is a muddy paste?
an amalgam of elements and textures
unclear where one begins and the other ends
dirty grey and ruined white and moldy green
then what?
not so simple
certainly not what we expected
ambiguous and unappealing
then the challenge is
to love the mucky paste
