Nativity

A Poem by Young Left Hand

Oh Eastern Star
Shining down on me
I pray this night
with all my heart
against my un belief

Great is my burden Lord
but greater yet to carry
a child out of wed lock

Great is the distance
to return to one's home
but greater is that distance made
when greeted with apathy and shame

Oh Eastern Star
Shining down on me
I pray this night
with all my heart
against my un belief

Great is my fear
as I huddle in this place
these walls that keep the elements neither
in nor out
It can not be that I carried this child
on such a long and course journey
only to birth him here at the mercy of
such a bitter setting

With no one to turn to
and no where to go
my faith is all I have to give
I turn it to You and ask that
We be delivered in warmth and in health

Oh Eastern Star
Shining down on me
I pray this night
with all my heart
against my un belief
