Sarah

A Poem by shiloh jennings
"

11:27pm Nov 21/95 ... to the first girl I ever loved.

"

Gently, I reach out

   to take your arm.

Silently, I bring back

   my hand

Before you notice my gesture.

Deep inside my soul

burns an undying flame.

To be with you is all I ask.

To touch you, to hold you,

      to kiss and caress you;

   to show you just how

   hot my desires burn.

Yet,

something stops me.

The flame lays

trapped inside the glass casing of society

   and I am afraid.

Afraid that the flame will suffocate itself

   before society

alllows me to set it free.

In the depths of my heart lays

   the key to this case

I want to lead you to it.

Yet again, society steps in my path.

And I remain scared,

of both

   society

and the thought of living without you.

Please note: this was written by a confused and (obviously) emotionally charged 15 year old girl ... about thirteen years ago :) ... today, I'd have no problem telling anyone, male or female, that I loved them or that I desired them!

I liked your poem, very well written and a definite pleasure to read.

So what would the fact that a 36 year old scruffy man, such as myself, could associate with this piece mean? Though not facing the same stigma that society would cast, I do not think I have ever been able to tell any woman how I felt about her as plainly and honestly as you did as that emotionally charged 15 year old girl.
