Verdant Battleground

Verdant Battleground

A Poem by Thalassa
"

A conundrum.

"

I am the bride of bravery

Vehement amidst the thistles

Striding calmly upon the ardors of the soil

Assured with the company of the wind

Liberated adventure for justice

Insist my heart to ponder

Whether or not my heart is fueled enough

To retain solidity among any other

For I am brave yet fainthearted,

My vigor is tested in the flames of pain

Though torment gasses one's will

I for one am bleary of its scar

Though anguished of the thistles

Seizing my skin with its pricks

I will remain steadfast against its many edges

For I am the bride and foe of bravery

I admit that I am a walking contradiction at times, but I believe that it doesn't make me lesser of who I am.

Contradiction is the first word that came to mind as I read this piece. The speaker seems to have a rich fantasy life wherein she sees herself as a committed warrior for justice. Shortly thereafter, however, she calls herself fainthearted and wonders if she has what it takes to participate in the struggle. In the end she calls herself both the bride and foe of bravery. A case of good intentions, I would say.
