The Smoke I Breathe, The Air I Don't

The Smoke I Breathe, The Air I Don't

A Poem by Zi

Broken hearts and broken truths

Broken smiles and smoke that soothes

Life is in breath

Breath that will never heal

That comes in rasping drags

And pain that’s all too real

I can change from one day to the next

Never knowing what is good or what is best

Simply changing for the sake of change

Knowing that settling in one place

      In one style

          In one mind

              Is just that

          Settling

And why should I settle

When there is so much life to be had

So much life, but so little breath

Pain is what teaches us

Suffocation is experience

I drown myself in life

                         In change

                         In smoke

Loving every agonizing second

Of whatever may come next
