Song Bird Oriental Magpie Robin:The Harbinger of Dawn

Song Bird Oriental Magpie Robin:The Harbinger of Dawn

A Story by zainul

I was awoke by the sweet song of oriental magpie robin at early dawn. The weather was very pleasant.Spring breeze was washing away my fatigue.I peeped out from my window of fourth floor apartment. The light darkness and haze conspired together to make a lovely scene. The song of magpie robin was transformed into a chorus.I felt that the lovely bird was the harbinger of dawn.

The magpie robin is a wonder bird.Very simple, yet very beautiful. It knows how to allure you, seduce you and finally win your heart. The precise name of the song bird is oriental magpie robin. Its scientific name is Copsychus

saularis. It belongs to the group of  passerine birds. The bird could amaze the poets and politicians of Bangladesh by their beauty and power of singing.Hence this oriental magpie robin was adjudged to be the national bird of Bangladesh. The whole population accepted the naming and thus the image of the bird is used freely on currencies ,structures, songs  and poems.

As I looked outside,I could not see a single oriental  magpie robin. But the stream of melodious song flooded the whole area.Perhaps, they were in the canopies of coconut plants or on the roof tops.Their songs were interrupted by the calls of crow which started to emerge from their nests to work as the natural scavenger.I saw a female sweeper too in the morning twilight who already started to sweep the street below. She is paid by the City Corporation for her work as a sweeper.I saw a group of little girls walking past the sweeper. All of them carried a  plastic sack against their elbows. They were freelancer poor girls who collected waste papers and materials for their living.I don’t know how those little girls enjoyed the sweet song of the harbinger of the dawn or the harsh notes of the ugly crows when they were moving to unknown destinations for a small amount of money to live until the following day.

I also saw a group of pious persons heading towards the nearby mosque to say their morning  prayer. They  regularly attend the congregation in the mosque.Though they were awakened by Azan pronounced by the muezzin, they were moving slowly under the melodious notes of the harbinger of dawn and harsh calls of crows.

The oriental magpie robin is a passion for all bird lovers. This bird welcomes us to rise from the sleep and be active for the day’s activities.I love this bird and feel a kind of divine pleasure.I hope this bird will always live with the humans like a beloved friend.

Featured Review

an incredibly rich insight into the magpie robin, it filled my heart with admiration reading this as I too have a love for birds, there are particular revered birds by different cultures, like the japanese crane or the migration of storks, geese and swallows... where people welcome these birds and restore nests, give them food as encouragement to come back year after year, the birds life is sometimes mysterious and harsh and they are an important symbol for the wilderness of the earth and survival, which is perfectly captured in this story.

There's no better sound to wake up to than the sound of birdsong. You fit so much into a small amount of writing which I liked because it was insightful but didn't drag out. This was a pleasure to read!

Listening to the birds come alive at first light is a beautiful way to start the day ... just as you have described here. The birds, as well as other crteatures, wake shortly before sunrise during what is called morning twilight. This is the time when the sun's light can first be seen but the sun has not yet appeared on the horizon. It is a beautiful time to be outdoors. You've captured this time well.

I enjoyed this story, the lovely, lyrical song of the oriental mag-pie robin, the backdrop music for your observations, teeming with life and interconnected with nature, even if those going about their daily business are oblivious to it's presence.
