Oh yeah they do and I can relate. My daughter by marriage is one who each weekend packed her bags and waited at the door for the father who never came .I will not let that happen to her anymore her father was a callous man.So sad to see how that plays out in the future as she is still insecure about men

No i dont know what happened to her father but he disappeared a few years after that and we havent heard from him since

I'm sure I don't know why this poem struck me as funny.

Is the remaining parent to be cursed, or the one who is absent?

Yes,it is funny.
But,it is real.
I saw one single father yesterday who won in a song competition was flanked by his minor daughters.The man had to take all cares of the daughters alone after working in their farm for arranging their food and other necessities.I thought that the children cursed their mom in that case.
But in most cases,the men leave the women compelling her to live as single mother and support her helpless children even without any means.
In the second case the father is cursed.
But,for all such cases children feel the absence of a parent which make their lives so miserable.They may curse primarily their either parent and finally both of them.
They may also curse their fates for the miseries of their lives.
However,I am considering to revise the piece to make it more meaningful.
