Shaheed Minar

Shaheed Minar

A Poem by zainul
"

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is being observed on 21 February each year.

"
Shaheed Minar has become alive
Thousands proceed to place flowers
Love and respect thrive
For the valiant language martyrs

Leaders and ordinary people
Have joined the stream together
Sad song spreads as ripple
Solemn processions move with prayer

The killers shot bullets to stop voice
They could not think its reaction
The young activists had no choice
They fought bravely to honor passion

Speaking in mother language is a human right
The brave Bengali boys began the fight

This is very striking. Haunting and sad, your words have such power.

The killers shot bullets to stop voice
They could not think its reaction
The young activists had no choice
They fought bravely to honor passion

This in particular. What lovely memorial.

The preservation of history and culture is so very important. Just imagine if the great library of Alexandria had survived. Those who oppose such things must be very insecure in ther identity.

I was surprised with myself how frequent I was in Oriya my mother tongue when I was in India this time, haven't spoken it that much since past 10 years I should say..but its mother tongue after all, get immense pleasure out of it..though I must admit I can't read it that well, but I am with you on this topic to celebrate!
