nothing left to lose

nothing left to lose

A Story by Zatoichi
"

freedom's just another word for...

"

When I was younger I couldn't imagine what was in store. I had the moment and it was enough. I did no planning as there was no future; the moment was sufficient. This attitude kept me going when I was homeless, or so I rationalized at the time.

As I got older, the concept of the moment was revised and redefined. The moment stretched to encompass an entire month, which enabled me to embrace a conflicting concept called rent. I only began to consider myself as having a future as it pertained to obligations, and as responsibilities accumulated I saw the future more clearly and didn't like what I saw. I had compromised away the moment.
