A Poem by Zatoichi
"

a meditation on the commonality of sense vs. the theatre of the heart, an operetta

"

We think in metaphors

it never rains, it pours

silver goblets full of pain and glory and

poetry is how we write the stories of our lives;

metaphor is the opera of the mind.

Therefore, you'll find exaggeration,

a hesitation to settle for the unrealized potential

that is the unpainted truth.

It is never just youth that is lost, but hope also- oblivion.

This is the most compelling storyline

told and sold and filmed and sold and told again

generation after generation, amen. And yet,

wipe away the stage makeup and the truth can shine

like a freshly-washed wound

both higher and lower, more of everything

than anything of fiction ever written.

"poetry is how we write the stories of our lives"

and I for one am so grateful that Mankind invented it, and that small groups of people are keeping it in our schools as a subject matter as "non-essentials" are cut all over teh country. Mostly I am grateful for the chance, every day, to look at Life with the kind of mind and eyes that permit me to put my experiences in poetic form. Reading works like this help inspire me, every day, to do just that.

This poem makes no sense. The rhyme scheme blinded me to the inherent contradictions between the second and fourth stanzas. Anyone else see the problem?

I think I'm in love with you. The first stanza is absolutely amazing! Such an apt and elegant portrait! I cannot think of a way to better praise this work; it certainly shines on its own; no praise can quite do the trick I think. Amen.

Amen brother Zatoichi! You encapsulated poets perfectly and eloquently. I personally am haunted by words and rhymes and whenever I tell someone that, they think I'm either exaggerating or crazy, but it's true. True, pure poets are tormented souls! Not to say that I'm of that creed, but I do have the heart of someone wanting to be. I loved the way it opened and it because metaphors are such a representative word to describe poetry! Great write man!

Now I want to read everything you've ever written, because, unlike a lot of people on here, you understand that flowery language and metaphors mimicked like a chorus of colourless luvvy parrots does not equal poetry, and bloody hell you can rhyme gloriously, I'm still grinning from the sheer skillful perfection of it.
