Don't [Expect]

Don't [Expect]

"

Don't expect the moon to smile through the darkness.
Don't expect the crickets to sing tonight,
Or the frogs to call.
Don't expect the stars to twinkle
Against the black canvas.
Things so common to the world.
Don't think they'll stay.
And don't expect them here tonight.
Don't assume another breath will ever pass your lips.
Or to feel a painting of emotion.
But don't think you'll stay a stone,
Stripped of what makes you human.
Don't expect to see your shadow,
Through the dim light.
Don't expect to hear another bird's song.
And don't think you'll see
The light of day again.
The sun won't rise for you today.

About
I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
