Hummingbird

Hummingbird

"

Like a whisper in the soft wind.
Something that stays
Only for a moment.
Like a hummingbird,
Whose wings never rest.
So graceful and smooth,
As it darts through the air.

Like a leaf,
Caught by a breeze.
It struggles as it flutters
To stay afloat,
In something so ambiguous.
And it lasts only for the moment,
This gentle and cool zephyr.

Try as you might
To catch this in a jar.
Something so free as this
Cannot be contained.

I really enjoyed reading this poem. It is beautiful, expressive, and full of excellent similes. The language is wonderful and nice use of vocabulary! I would love to read more of your writing. I'll be reading more of your work :)

I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
