The Mountain

This mountain is grand...
Taller than any other you've had to climb.
Or so it feels.
There was one other.
Do you remember it?

But that's only a memory now.
And you're faced with this creation instead.
A funny thought, isn't it?
That something so magnificent may have been put in your path by you?
And now you have to climb it, alone.
Nobody else wants to.

And what's that one saying?
The grass is greener on the other side?
Maybe it is.
In fact, you know it is.
You were there just a breath ago.

But somehow it was taken from you,
Just like that.
So now all you can do is climb.
Better get started.
It's a long way to the top.

About
I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
