Think Bizzaro...  November 23, 2007 - December 30, 2007

Reading and Deliberating

Details

Bizarro, simply put, is the genre of the weird. It's literature's equivalent to the cult section at the video store. Like cult movies, Bizarro is sometimes surreal, sometimes avant-garde, sometimes goofy, sometimes bloody, sometimes borderline pornographic, and almost always completely out there.
Bizarro was created by a group of small press publishers in response to the increasing demand for (good) weird fiction and the increasing number of authors who specialize in it like: Carlton Mellick III, Jeremy Robert Johnson, Andrew Goldfarb, Steve Beard, Andre Duza, and D.Harlan Wilson.
I've found that there's nothing worse than bad bizarro but when done well it can be tons of fun. Even if you don't enter this contest I suggest you check out some of the authors listed above.
