Details

This contest is open only to poems written in villanelle format. Your poem can be about anything that you want but it must adhere to the rules of the form.

If you do not know what a villanelle is: A villanelle is a 19 line poem broken up into 5 tercets (3 line stanza) and 1 quatrain (4 line stanza). It uses 2 refrains that are repeated throughout the poem. This is the general form of a villanelle:

Where A1 and A2 are your refrains, meaning you use the exact same line every time (with slight alterations if you want). These refrains rhyme with each other. A is a non-refrain line that rhymes with your refrains. Your lines may be as long or as short as you like.

If you would like to see an example of a villanelle, here's one of the most famous ("Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" by Dylan Thomas): http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15377

*** All submitted poems must be villanelles. All other forms will be disqualified.

Poems will be judged based on adherence to the form, creativity, and presentation.
