About Me

Scott De Buitléir [pronounced 'de but-LAIR'] was born in north London in 1988, of Irish parents, and raised in Clontarf, Dublin.

Although was raised speaking English, Scott developed a passion for the Irish language from a young age, and became fluent by his teenage years. He studied Modern Irish and Welsh at University College Dublin, where he became involved with Cumann na Scríbhneoirí Úra, or New Irish-language Writers’ Society. It was through the college society that he became published in the university’s Irish Department publication, Nua-Aois, and the 2008 anthology, Blaiseadh Pinn (Cois Life). In 2017, Scott published his début poetry collection, Fás | Growth (MKB Publishing).

He has read his poetry at several festivals around Ireland, such as the Cúirt Literary Festival in Galway, and the IMRAM Irish-language Literary Festival, and the Dublin Book Festival. He writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, in both English and Irish. He lives in Cork City with his partner, where he is working on his first novel.
