The Little Snowman

The Little Snowman

A Story by Ammar Ali
"

A single grain can make a difference!

"

It was a cold and silent night. A little snowman was strolling in the streets.

He was already tired and out of breath after saving a Cat from drowning.

His Objective was to help as many souls as he could before the night ends and the Sun shows up

The Cat was following him but he was unaware and the only thing echoing in his mind were the sagacious words of his magnanimous mentor

"Don't forget my son that we are made of tiny little grains of snow and snow is white, which is the color of innocence, purity, completion and peace.

We can spread generosity and prosperity.

We can help others and bring them back to the life of colors

But tragically our life is short. My days are over. And now it’s your turn

Do good and preach peace. Help them all before your clock runs out of life"

As He entered into a park , he heard a crying voice.

Behind the rocks a little sparrow was weeping.

What's the matter? Why are you crying?

"I was playing and I lost my way now it is dark and I can't go home alone. I’m afraid", the sparrow replied

"Don't be afraid of the darkness. Fear is just a fake reflection rather use it as a motivator. Come on now get up little soldier I'll help you to get back home", said the snowman

So the little snowman guided the little sparrow to its nest where he received the gratitude of the worried parents.

The Cat was still following him as he continued his mission of the night.

He saw two mice fighting with each other over a single piece of cheese

"Hey, hey what's the matter with you two? Why are you fighting when you can share?"

The little snowman taught the mice about sharing and tore the cheese in two equal pieces.

After settling the dispute he continued his journey

The paws were still on his trails like a shadow

After helping many animals and birds throughout the night, the little brave snowman sat by the river.

"So I guess this is it. I have done my job and it's almost the time to say goodbye to this world", he smiled.

A voice came from behind

"But why are you doing all this"

"Who... Who is there?"

"It's me, the Cat you saved from drowning. I have been following you all night but still couldn't figure out why are you helping everybody when you yourself will melt away and your life is short?? I mean you are like a road being used by everyone but you get no advantage out of that?"

The Little snow man replied;

“Roads do lie there alone alright and people do throw garbage at them, but they still provide a path   don’t they? Look at the Moon and the shining stars. They glow in darkness providing directions without getting anything in return"

"Yes Mr. Snowman but this is the Earth with mighty oceans and self-centered population. There is no Moon nor any stars on the Earth but only rejections and fake reflections"

"Yes but my point is that if you can make a difference by doing a little good to others then why not? You see that's what everyone needs to realize, not only us but these humans also. As far as I have seen this Earth is an obtuse and clumsy universe of unendurable and irresolute mankind.

You see my existence is representative of a millions of snow grains. A single grain is essential for my existence

That's what people need to learn that a single individual can make a difference

To let go of the fear of darkness, of being useless to the society, of being at disadvantage.

Life is all about sharing and caring. Even though my life was short but I lived it without any fear"

Cat was stunned as the dawn chorus started but the Sun was still hidden behind the cloudy curtain.

"So you are going to fade away now? Can't I do anything for you? You saved my life I owe you that

Sun began to shine and the dawn chorus continued.

The little snowman started melting. He turned his face towards the Cat

"Only thing you can return to me is that you keep yourself "white" "

White? , the Cat inquired

"Yes the color of purity.

Abyss and soul both are deep but one of them has a limit".

Snow began to melt and the existence of little snowman was washed away by the scorching Sun as the Cat remained stunned.

But the wise words were left forever!

You explained how snow is white my friend this story is awesome, I see you've submitted this for my contest, I welcome you for joining. But why on earth are your works still hide darkness in them, he sacrificed himself for helping others. Its still sad he had to melt away in the end although he helped other beings... Life sure is unfair

Nice! I like the imagination from this piece, though a little colour makes everything more interesting, agree with what the snow man says. Actually, I loved everything the snowman said, and the cat's questions. They're some asked a lot, but more often left unanswered. Good job =D
