A Black Bird Flies

A Black Bird Flies

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

a bird escapes death....

"

The night was dark and warm,

silhouetted on the plateau above

was a demonic, massive form,

sharp teeth and mouth opened wide,

pacing from side to side,

as only a hungry animal would,

a black bird flies,

when a low wail began to rise,

it sensed an attack,

and shiver responses down its back,

the demon slowly rose on its hind legs,

lifting his arms as if in attack position,

knocking reality back a few pegs,

the wail rose to a soul shrinking shriek,

safety is what the black bird would seek,

as ghosts panting in fear,

a shadow was near,

death was clear,

as the demonic image would just stare.

this had a quick pace that picked up speed as I read it. I loved the image it sets from the first line and then each line adds an additional stroke of the canvas
