Lost To Gain

Lost To Gain

A Poem by Lenard L. Banks III
"

This poem is about how being in bad relationships and losing women doesn't be in vain but how it helps you be a good or better man for the next woman.

"

My first love was my first wife

we would argue, fuss, and fight,

if not everyday it was every other night.

Sometimes the abuse was just physiological,

sometimes we even got physical,

until the fights got so intense

the situation became unlivable,

we went from loving each others dirty draws

to just being plain miserable.

We went from sugar to s**t,

from fit to unfit,

from extreme joy to extreme pain,

from sunshine to rain,

But the past unhealthy relationship wasn’t in vain,

I went from being wild to being tame,

going through this and losing you helped me change,

after losing you I was no longer the same.

My attitude went from being nasty to nice,

I won the battle but I lost that fight,

I was Mr. Wrong to my first wife,

but losing her prepared me to be someone else’s Mr. Right.

My Babies Mother was my homie,

we both forced love that we knew was phony,

what’s in the dark will come to the sun,

and we knew it was over before it begun,

all we got out of this was a handsome Son.

She started out a friend of me,

and ended up a distant enemy.

We went from being inseparable,

to being unbearable,

this left our relationship unmanageable.

We went from being a team who respected each others positions,

to being each others opposition,

this broken relationship was not a blank mission,

the fact I lost my son’s mother sent my ill heart in to remission.

I lost the chance to love my baby mother,

But through losing her I’ve learned

and gained a chance to properly love another,

all my past ill relationships helped me to grow,

they taught  me to be a better man not

for them but for the next woman I might know.

The below line is true for many of us.
"But through losing her I’ve learned
and gained a chance to properly love another,
all my past ill relationships helped me to grow,
they taught me to be a better man not
for them but for the next woman I might know."
We learn by failing and if we are lucky. Don't repeat the same mistakes. A poem with story and wisdom shared. Thank you Lenard for sharing the amazing poetry.
