9/11, The Day of Change

9/11, The Day of Change

A Poem by Caesar
"

A very heartfelt poem about 9/11

"

Dust before my placid eyes,

Ash raining from the sky.

Shrieks fill the heavy air

As a second plane races

Through our peripheral.

The shrieks come to a stop,

All eyes turned to the plane.

It turns sharply.

It doesn't hesitate.

A splitting roar sounds in the ears of all.

And then silence,

Louder than the loudest cries.

Flames,

Smoke,

Ash.

Fear is evident in the air.

Everyone is a terrorist

In the eyes of one another.

As slowly,

The buildings burn.

At once,

A splitting crack

And the first towering mass buckles.

The once proudly standing tower

Is now nothing.

Nothing but ash and debris.

Tears,

Cutting through ash on faces.

People running about,

Screaming for loved ones

Never to return.

The blare of sirens

Symbolize that help is one the way.

But it isn't fast enough.

As the minutes tick by,

One life after another

Comes to an abrupt halt.

Others stand in horror

As the scene unfolds.

Minutes that seem like hours

Pass as the clock marks

Every passing second.

The air is heavy with silence.

Nobody dares disturb

The piercing roar

Of silence.

All at once,

The second tower

Gives way.

Once more,

Shrieks fill the air.

The not quite fully evacuated building

Crumples

Under its own weight.

Many lives are lost.

Many lives are ruined.

Many lives,

Are changed forever.
