   My greatest regret was you

                   ---------------------
                    Loved and lost

Dear Lizzy, my beautiful Liz.
Honey, sweetheart and my love.
Where are you now?
Once we drank the Long Island ice tea and laughed at the midnight moon.
You were just a baby and we allowed the drink to make us become foolish and for us to know madness.
Being foolish for a second. We believed love was life. Life was love.
We kissed and make mad love in the dark motels where secret lovers action.
Are only painted on the thin walls of old paint and old pain.
Just a place of madness, where skin meet skin. Lips meet lips.
The words spoken become meaningless at the dawn hour.
I remember you. Our love is in the lost and found of my memories.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

                     No regrets

The poet's love did not know.
She would killed his last hope for love.
She promised him forever and a day.
She promised him long embrace and lingering kisses in the darkness of the night.
Now the poet of the light. Learned regret.
Now the old poet became the dark wordsmith.
He held the whiskey like a old lover and he sang the songs to the sea.

"Love be sweet, love be long.
Love make us nude and true.
Rebel heart, once believed.
Sweet woman was his savior.
Deep and beautiful Pacific became his only true friend.
Today I want the sea and I need to see you one more time.
No regret my kind muse, no regret my siren. My killer."

The young man who wanted everything became the poet by the sea.
He told the young writers and poets.
When love is near.
Make the day and night last forever.
Love can become your glory and your death in hope.

Not 'just words', John. There's such a sadness in this poem, yet, it's a truth, a realisation that not everything wanted is what fate decreed. Life messes with desires, time can be a killer.. but at the end of traged, we somehow cope and look back on the magic.

treasured memories where surroundings are not important but the privacy they provide and its cheap. i think these are the best memories but can also be the most haunting memories as well on love lost. nice writing john.

Thank you Nancy. I appreciate the comment.
So many facets to love here, wanton, reckless, ardent, selfless, deceitful, yet the best kind of love is the kind that leaves no regrets. So many lines and images to cherish in this poem. Loved 'the thin walls of old pain and old paint' and 'the poet by the sea' . Amazing poetry sir!

Thank you Divya. I appreciate the comment.
Damn... That transition from light to dark poet... The seamless emotional clasping... Is the sea a step up from the struggles of light and dark... Just endless salty bliss... Beautifully penned, friend

Absolutely, was a gritty, yet wonderful read...
"The young man who wanted everything became the poet by the sea.
He told the young writers and poets.
When love is near.
Make the day and night last forever.
Love can become your glory and your death in hope."

When Barbara Braford Taylor said in her novel: For my Daughters, She said " It is better to love and lost than never love before"

These words pull me through rough times. Thank you for sharing this emotions. It is strong. But our memories will help us through.

sometimes we make promises that we really mean, but something happens usually not in our control or a stupid mistake that changes it all, sometimes it comes back and sometimes it don`t
but we always have that feeling of love and regret
