                                 Pray for peace

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                           Tomfoolery

Yesterday man is swimming in memories of missed friends. Most men, do not know. Every action demand some sort of payment. I wanted war, I wanted to travel and I wanted adventure. We, who dance on dangerous ground and seek the dirt of men. We will find. My Grandmother told me, when I left for war. "Don't be a hero, heroes die young. Our family lost many to war. Men love war. The Tomfoolery of men, believe war is the way to peace." With sad eyes, she whispered to me. "Honey and sugar voices lead to peace, loud and demanding voices lead to anger. Honey and sugar can save our world. Anger lead to bad endings."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                   The trees, the river

I stood by a lonely grave, surrounded by the graves of a small town, soldiers lost to wars..
Old friend last resting place.
I remember my friend.
He told me often when we were deployed.
I miss the Michigan trees and the running rivers.
Damn desert make home so much better.
I need a Michigan apple and a piece of August corn.
When I get home,
I won't leave no-more.
I drank his favorite beer, Miller.
I drank the beer slow and easy and
I saw the trees near, a running river in the distance.
I stood up and I put the remaining four beer on the grave.
I saluted his grave and I whispered.
My friend, you are home.
You have the  forest and the river is near.
I will join you soon, us old soldiers.
Must find a place where war is forgotten and we can sing all night, dance with the pretty ladies
and know. The forest and river is waiting for us.

Wish there to come a day when there will be no graves because of wars.
Wars benefit none, victory is a lost cause.
Hopefully fools for leaders can keep their egos aside and in unison help build a peaceful world.
Thank you for writing this heartfelt piece.

Thank you my friend. If we don't seek peace soon. We will leave nothing for our children.

yes that is true
War sucks, don't it just....and only fools glorify it and any form of wanton or unnecessary violence....if any one is in doubt, go ask a veteran....on this score me and John Coyote stand firmly in the same corner......Great write my friend....................N

Thank you Neville for reading. Too many graveyards. Payment of war is very costly.

Far too costly indeed......................N
I found your poem very moving. I have never lost anyone as a result of war, but I have read so many accounts of what it is like to do so, and it can move me to tears. I love the way you have introduced all the little things that a soldier would miss dearly if away from home. They were delightful. thank you for sharing this.
