The World's Best Cook

The World's Best Cook

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

I love to eat my own food!

"

THE WORLD'S BEST COOK

I am the world's best cook

And I didn't learn from any book;

I watched Mom, as a kid,

And cooked, mostly, what she did;

Then, I learned to experiment;

Burning food is an excellent way to vent;

My main ingredients are this and that,

Which I shovel in; what's a scant;

I heap a pile of something that smells

So good that you will forget your ills;

I think that spice is nice;

Did I add it; let's add it, twice;

I like to fix food in a big, boiling pot

And boil it down to the consistancy of snot;

Whatever the food has become,

MMM, MMM, you are sure to hum;

It's not the food you love, you see,

It's me!

Laughed till I hurt!

Now, my Mom will tell you that I am "The World's Best Cook," but she never, really, watched to see what went in the pot!

Sounds like the words of a woman who has worn a path from the stove to the fridge! This needs to be on a plaque in your kitchen, it is fun to read. And your right, it isnt just the food...its the fact that YOUR making it. Nothing makes me smile more than to hear one of my kids yell, "guess what moms cooking!?"

I like the rhythm of this poem and the light-hearted approach to the very serious art of cooking. Everything about the poem is fun... except the reference to snot. I know that's humor, but personally would like the poem better if the food boiled down to the consistency of something else - keeping the tastiness of the poem intact. Don't let my personal opinion influence you (too much). I like your writing style and will confirm your friend request. :-)

Entertaining write. I think of cooking as an artform, and, just like with any artform, it has its moments when the artist just freestyles and goes wherever his abilities take him. Some of the best artwork, dances, writings, and music has come from the artist freestyling, and exploring his own abilities. Cooking is no different. Great poem.

In my house I'm the cook. I was a head cook at big restaurants. My kids love when I have time to cook. I like this poem. The touch of love and a lot of good spices make the food tasty and good. A excellent poem.

The best cooks are those that "create" as they go along... never precisely the same but, alway delicious in the end. No, I'm not a cook but, sure love consuming what good cooks create.
