Has It Ever Occured To You?

Has it ever occurred to you

That I'm not as stupid

As you think I am?

That I am actually able to think

For myself, and make decisions?

That I am my own person

And that I can figure out how

To make things happen

On my own?

That I'll take your advice more willingly

If you tell me what, not how

If you don't  claim to know the only way

If you don't yell at me constantly

For wanting to do things

My way

Be

my own person

Live

My life

How

I'm more comfortable

Not how

You're more comfortable?

I like the poem very much. It has elements that I have already encountered in life. I would say , it is a challenging poem..more of a request by lecture , to change the behavior of another.
And it starts so elegantly " Has it ever occurred to you " , a question with music and profoundness.

I have been guilty of this in the past, until I realised it wasn't the person I was with I was mad at, but at myself, taking it out on others around me. It is true what they say, you do hurt the ones you love.
