The Seconds

The Seconds

A Poem by Pale Rose

Each grain of a second, drops of time, falling into a vast desert,

swallowed up by flowing dunes of eternity, buried in oblivion.

I am a being of crystals and minerals too small to wield,

too lightweight to stone me or lovers turned sinners.

This moment of suffering shall not be everlasting,

as seconds, one by one, fly away with the wind.

All too soon will maggots pick apart my smile,

And worms devour the tracks of my tears.

The solitary fate for all made of sand.

I have no more longing for the knife,

but would rather hold my head up,

walking with my own two feet.

I cannot shrug the burden--

There is no avoiding

the wind or flow.

I truly know

where it is

that I

go.

Author's Note

Pale Rose
I'm always so inspired when I'm miserable. This was partly inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's poem "A Dream Within A Dream" and the Old Woman in "Candide", but mostly it's just my current outlook on life.

heh, I just read a hourglass poem by Kyari! Two different styles, two different feels, two different poems.

As usual, you're the more depressing. I mean that lightly!

Time seems to be a theme these five minutes! My dad was just voicing his disgust at the expression "Some people have too much time on their hands." As I told him, we all have the same amount of time. A perfect comeback for those who agree with that stupid saying.

What was I ... oh yes. I am inspired by your miserableness! Wow, I sense a blossoming friendship in our future.

In the meantime, I just realized the "future" is just truth twisted up with anger. Or something.

If mine wasn't the more depressing, I'd be offended! Lol :P Thanks for the review!

I really love this. I can relate, and the meaning behind it is amazing, and very strong. And I also gotta say, I love Edgar Allen Poe.

Thank you! And yes, gotta love Poe's poems (and other works). I get a lot of inspiration from him.

About
Poetry is the ultimate expression of humanity. It is the only tool we have to express the depth of our emotions and suffering. As for my own, I see the dark side of life and find it beautiful. I seek .. more..
